Transportation of Tokyo city
- The first railroad was put in 1872 going through Tokyo to Yokohama
- since 1991 has it been possible to take a Shinkansen express train to northern Japan from Tokyo station
- Most international travel is through the airport at Narita which is very unconvienent--> opened in 1978 and has been a problem and a centre of controversy ever since then.--> such a problem because of opposition of landowners to their property
- - The older, smaller, and more convinient airport at Haneda located near Tama River--> accommodates domestic travel and a few international flights
- Tokyo not only floods with people but also vehicles--> so much traffic
- There is a good system of roads and express highways in the city and region, but it usually does not do much when it comes to traffic
- A network of subways and commuter rail lines provides an alternative to the automobile
This picture shows you how crammed public spaces are in Tokyo. The people helping squeeze every last person on those subways are the attendants/ security that work at the subway. These crammings can even become dangerous and harmful to yourself and the people around you.
This image is an actual map of the Tokyo subway system and how it works.
